The Secondary Music School in Zenica served as a detention centre for Croat and Serb civilians, as well as captured members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), during 1993 and 1994. Detainees suffered cruel treatment.

More than 100 prisoners of war, as well as civilians of Croat and Serb ethnicity, were detained in the Zenica Music School from January 26 to August 20 or September 20, 1993. During their detention in this facility they were subjected to cruel treatment, which included beatings with feet, wooden poles, and rubber cables. (paras. 1173-1189., 1193., 1195., 1199-1200. Six captured HVO soldiers from Dusina were transferred to the Zenica Music School on January 26, 1993, where they were subjected to mistreatment. (paras. 1177-1178. Hadžihasanović and Kubura, p. 365.)
Anto Vrvilo, a former detainee of the Music School in Zenica, describes traumatic beatings and inhumane conditions in the building’s basements in 1993. As president of an association of former detainees, he passes this unmarked building every day.
